FULL GROOM – SHORT HAIR OR DOUBLE COATS WHICH DO NOT REQUIRE CLIPPING

The grooming specialists at Headington Hounds are well-known for offering their services to breeds with short hair or double coats as well. We use a “Dead Sea Mineral” treatment which gently exfoliates and “de-sheds” loose hair. This is added during the bathing process. This process is followed by manual “de-shedding” after drying. Our services for short hair pooches include:
  • Two shampoos and rinses plus condioning with “Dead Sea Mineral” treatment
  • Drying
  • Manual “de-shedding” process
  • Pawdicure or nail maintenance
  • Sanitary trim

Mini grooms and half hour brush-outs

Some coats, particularly ‘woolly’ and ‘doodle’ coats, require a little more attention between professional grooming appointments in order to keep in tip top condition and free from tangles and matts. Mini grooms are also suitable if you want to keep your dog in a longer than recommended trim.

We can help in the following ways:

Mini grooms

These include everything contained within the full groom without any reduction in coat length (clipping and scissoring).

Half hour brush-outs

This is just as it sounds – we will thoroughly brush and comb through every inch of your dog’s coat to remove any tangles and debris before they can turn into matts *

*Your dog must be clean, dry and free from matted fur for us to do this. If not, we will need to recommend either a full or mini groom instead depending on coat condition. It may also be necessary for you to re-book as we may not have immediate availability.

EMMI PET ORAL HYGIENE TREATMENTS

We are excited to introduce ...

EMMI-PET
A revolutionary and unique approach to ORAL HYGIENE FOR YOUR DOG

By the time they are 2 years old, it is estimated that up to 80% of dogs have signs of oral/dental disease.
The best way to prevent/combat this is with a REGULAR ORAL HYGIENE ROUTINE.

We are now able to offer this safe and gentle, completely brushless method of oral hygiene for your dog. This is just an "overview" - for more detailed information about whether it would be suitable for your pet, and to book a demonstration.

 PLEASE GET IN TOUCH

WHY IS ORAL HYGIENE SO IMPORTANT?

The oral cavity is a breeding ground for bacteria, which if not regularly removed can lead to ....
  • GINGIVITIS
  • PERIODONTITIS
  • PLAQUE AND TARTAR FORMATION
  • BAD BREATH
  • HEART AND KIDNEY DISEASE
HOW DOES IT WORK?
  • Ultrasound "chip" in brush generates up to 96 million ultrasonic waves (air vibrations) per minute.
  • Ultrasound waves combined with EMMI toothpaste create approx. 3.5 million "microbubbles" per minute.
  • Brush loaded with paste is HELD AGAINST teeth and gums for approx. 10 seconds for each tooth/section of mouth.
  • "Microbubbles" implode and energy released breaks down plaque and tartar, and kills bacteria that cause disease and bad breath.
BENEFITS OF ULTRASONIC ORAL HYGIENE TREATMENTS
  • No brushing - brush head is simply HELD AGAINST the teeth for 10 seconds
  • Silent - operates outside the hearing range of dogs so they are not disturbed
  • Guards against gum disease - ultrasound waves reach below the gum line to stimulate blood flow
  • Deep cleans oral cavity - No more "doggy breath"
  • May help elderly dogs who can no longer have veterinary "dentals" under anaesthetic.

MICROBUBBLE SKIN HEALTH TREATMENTS

"The silky soft swirl of microbubbles over your dog's skin and coat if the most effective treatment we provide for removing and preventing the bacteria which cause recurring and chronic skin and ear conditions"
Kristian Maris, Chairman of the British Isles Dog Grooming Association (BIGA)and partner at "Just Barking"grooming salon, London

WHAT ARE MICROBUBBLES?
HOW DO THEY WORK?
COULD MY DOG BENEFIT?
HOW CAN I GET A TREATMENT?

Headington Hounds are pleased to announce that we are among the first dog grooming salons in the UK to be able to bring you and your dog the benefits of Microbubble Skin Care and Treatment baths.

Not to be confused with Hydrobath shower systems (the "Doggy Power Showers" which we use daily), or Jacuzzi style "Spa" baths, Micro (Nano) bubble technology is a major advance in skin care for both animals and humans and is already a popular treatment in several far Asian countries.

WHAT ARE MICROBUBBLES?

Microbubbles are tiny bubbles (much smaller than a human hair) and being so small, microbubbles can reach deep into the pores and follicles of the skin without penetrating the skin itself. Treatments use NO ADDITIVES, or SHAMPOO just WATER saturated with naturally generated OXYGEN.

HOW DO MICROBUBBLE TREATMENTS WORK?

Bathwater is circulated through a special "microbubble generator". As the microbubbles are GENERATED, DEVELOP, GROW and BURST they release NEGATIVELY CHARGED IONS into the water stream. These negative ions attract the POSITIVELY CHARGED IONS present in dirt, dander, dust, sebum, yeasts and bacteria and harmlessly draw them out of the individual follicles and away from the body allowing the skin to regain/retain and healthy balance.

COULD MY DOG BENEFIT?

Microbubble treatments can be used to provide relief from the effects of:-
  • ALLERGIES,
  • ECZEMA,
  • DERMATITIS,
  • FOLLICULITIS,
  • General over-production of SEBUM (greasy skin and coat),
  • CRUSTY, FLAKY skin with no known cause and
  • General ITCHING and SCRATCHING.
Microbubble treatments are also useful for dogs which have deep skin folds which are difficult to keep clean such as pugs, french bulldogs etc. and following a course of antibiotic treatment which may have caused disturbance to the beneficial bacteria on your dog's skin.

HOW CAN I GET A MICROBUBBLE TREATMENT FOR MY DOG?

At Headington Hounds microbubble treatments can be added to your regular groom or are offered in a "stand alone" format. Treatments for a small to medium dog take about 15 minutes whilst large and giant dogs can take up to 30 minutes.

If being added to your regular groom, the microbubble treatment will take place as part of the bathing process BEFORE your dog is dried and styled, whilst for "stand alone" treatments, dogs will first need to be rinsed in a conventional shower bath to remove any large dirt particles. After they have been "microbubbled" they will be towel dried. If you would like your dog to be fully dried, please tell us this at the time of booking so we can schedule enough time for your dog's appointment.

PUPPY PLANS

Professional grooming is an essential part of responsible care for nearly all dogs, (even the short haired ones can benefit from specialist shed reduction treatments) and as within anything you want your dog to be able to do, the earlier you start the better.

At Headington Hounds we offer personal Puppy Plans tailored to your individual pup's needs.

These consist of "socialisation visits" moving on to gentle "puppy grooms" and are designed for puppies who have COMPLETED THEIR COURSE OF "PUPPY VACCINATIONS" AND ARE UNDER 16 WEEKS OF AGE.*

Please contact us for more information and to set up a plan for your puppy.

* Don't worry if your puppy is more than 16 weeks, we can still help, but the plan will need to be tailored in a slightly different fashion.

Pedipaw Nail & Pad Treatments

Nail clipping (and filing if possible), removal of overgrown hair between pads and deep cleaning of pads, our "Pedipaw" is included in all grooming appointments or can be booked as a "stand alone" service

Rehabilitation grooming

Do you have a rescue dog?

Has your dog been ‘banned’ from a grooming salon?

Do you find it difficult if not impossible to groom your dog at home?

Sometimes dogs develop negative associations with being groomed. At Headington Hounds we understand this and will never “force” grooming on a dog if it is uncomfortable. However, as grooming is a necessity for health and wellbeing, we have developed a programme to help such dogs overcome their fears. We use insights from dog psychology, modern husbandry, animal centred education and Tellington Touch methods to reduce stress and develop trust with the ultimate aim of being able to achieve adequate grooming. Please don’t expect this to be a quick or cheap process but if you feel we could help your dog, please do get in touch for a free, no obligation, consultation.

Hand stripping

Hand stripping is a traditional method of coat maintenance particularly suited to wire coats and some ‘sporting’ breeds. Instead of cutting the hair, a percentage of the dog’s coat which is ready for replacement (known as ‘blown’) with new individual hairs is gently removed by hand or the use of specialist tools. Only the hairs still in their “active growth” phase are left behind to give a dense, richly coloured ‘jacket’ for the dog. Not all dogs have the correct coat for hand stripping – genetics, neutering, previous clipping and age all contribute to making a coat ‘unstrippable’. If you are interested in hand stripping for your dog, do get in touch and we will invite you in for a consultation to decide if it is the way forward for your dog.

Some pointers ….

• As a specialist service, hand stripping is more expensive than clipping

• It is not possible to choose a finished length. This is determined by your dog’s genetics

• To develop a good coat with many layers of hairs, puppies will need to come in regularly to ‘set’ the coat. Poorly developed coats with hairs in the topcoat all growing at the same rate are liable to leave your dog in his/her “underwear” (undercoat) following stripping.

If you like the hand stripped look but your dog’s coat is not suitable for any reason, we can offer an “simulated hand stripping”. This uses specialist tools to give a smart and stylish finish to create a hand striped look and is a good alternative to hand stripping for:

• Pet dogs

• Neutered dogs

• Elderly dogs or,

• Dogs without the ‘correct’ coat due to genetic differences.

Speciality shampoos

Why not upgrade to a shampoo from our 'speciality' range?* (there is a small additional cost for this).

*The shampoo will besuited to your dog’s skin and coat colour/type.

We use a range of speciality shampoos and conditioners to help enhance the unique qualities of your dog’s coat. These are also available for you to purchase for home use.
